Music and engineering brought Brenda Escobeda to Moraine Valley. “I was involved in the college’s community band during my senior year of high school and I really liked it,” she says. Some of her fellow band members suggested she consider Moraine Valley, so she started looking into all the programs available. “Once I found the Engineering Pathways Program, it just kind of clicked.”

As a student worker, Carmen Calvillo helps plan and host Student Life events and activities throughout the year.

“Nature is a beautiful thing. Having the Shakespeare Garden where students can go if we’re having a rough day can brighten up our mood,” says Sara Hussein.

“It’s gorgeous when everything’s blooming,” says Gabby Lindberg of the Shakespeare Garden where her biology class recently met.

Since Gabriela Avitia was a young child, her dream was to learn numerous languages. “I want to be able to communicate with as many people as possible,” said Avitia, whose native language is Spanish. She also speaks English fluently and is studying French and Arabic. Once she graduates from Moraine Valley, she plans to transfer to a local university to earn a bachelor’s degree in Arabic Studies.
