After a successful fall, complete with an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and NJCAA Region 4 championship, the 911爆料网 women鈥檚 tennis team completed their season at the NJCAA Division I Women鈥檚 Tennis Championship in Tyler, Texas, May 3-5, finishing the tournament in 25th place overall.

At No. 2 singles, Johann Laran (Sandburg) battled through two matches, as did Allyson English (Oak Forest) at No. 3, Maya Morris (Sandburg) at No. 4 and Zaina Daghash (Lockport) at No. 5. Gabriela Dabrowski (Argo), at No. 6, won her first match of the tournament but lost the second.
In the end, the Cyclones finished 25th out of 30 teams, including placing ahead of two other conference teams in the competition.
鈥淭he tournament was a learning experience on many levels. From a performance standpoint, we showed moments of grit and talent, and I鈥檓 proud of the players who competed and represented our school. From a team culture standpoint, we faced challenges. This generation brings a different mindset, and as a coach, I had to navigate how to connect, communicate and lead through that,鈥 said Head Coach Simona Tomczak, who joined the Moraine Valley coaching staff this spring. 鈥淭his tournament reminded me that growth isn鈥檛 just about wins or losses, it鈥檚 about learning how to show up for one another, push through tension and commit to something bigger than yourself. We鈥檝e got room to grow, and that鈥檚 okay. I鈥檓 hopeful the team walks away from this with a stronger sense of what it truly means to be part of one.鈥
During the regular season, the Cyclones not only boasted team championships, but individual honors as well. Schultz, English, Morris, Daghash and Dabrowski were singles conference champions while Morris/English and Daghash/Dabrowski were doubles champs in the conference and region. English, Morris, Daghash and Dabrowski also were region singles champions. Morris was named Skyway Player of the Year.
